Icy road conditions cause more accidents in Wisconsin

With winter in full swing throughout the northern United States, the risk of winter weather is on the mind of most drivers. A record cold snap with large amounts of precipitation brought many Wisconsin communities to a standstill, but many drivers see no alternative to taking to the road to get to work or run errands.

Icy road conditions can lead state authorities or municipal police departments to issue advisories to take caution on some roads or avoid them entirely. Truck drivers should always take these notifications seriously, as the low maneuverability and long stopping distances of semis and other heavy vehicles are exacerbated by slippery road conditions due to rain, snow or ice.

One recent morning with snowy and icy conditions saw 15 traffic accidents in the town of Menomonee Falls in Waukesha County. There was one serious injury reported, but several road closures and delays also put pressure on open roadways, increasing risks for all drivers.

Interstate highways are often high-risk environments due to high expected speeds and the number of vehicles in proximity to each other. On the morning in question, four crashes took place on I-41 in Waukesha within 20 minutes of each other.

When drivers are not cautious enough on icy roads or sensible enough to stay off of them, accidents may cause serious injury, permanent disability or even death to drivers or passengers. An attorney may be useful to people who require financial damages to fully recover from the results of car accidents. No one should have to plan their recovery from a crash alone.
