Exhaustion allegedly to blame for Tracy Morgan truck accident

For residents of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a truck accident on the road is a very real concern. Though a run-in with a large truck isn't highly likely every time you slip behind the wheel, truck accidents do happen, and the resulting injuries and damages can be catastrophic.

Other drivers on the road want to know commercial truck drivers are taking precautions for safety, but truck drivers do make reckless choices occasionally or become distracted on the road. In another state, a much-publicized truck accident has left comedian Tracy Morgan and two others seriously injured. One person riding in Morgan's limo was killed in the accident.

According to reports, the driver of the truck, who worked for Wal-Mart, pleaded not guilty to criminal allegations in the case. Reportedly, a criminal complaint states that the man had not had any sleep for a period of 24-hours prior to the accident. That would be in violation of laws regarding truck driving.

Wal-Mart has said that it feels the driver followed federal safety regulations when operating the truck. The driver was arrested, and his bail was set at $50,000 related to charges of assault and death by auto. Reports indicate the truck driver swerved to avoid slow traffic just before hitting Morgan's limo.

Morgan reportedly suffered broken ribs, a broken nose and a broken femur. He is reported as being in stable, but critical, condition following a surgery. Another passenger in the car was reportedly treated and released from the hospital. Two others who were in the car also remain in critical condition, say medical staff.

Large truck accidents can result in critical injuries or death. In such instances, family members or victims have a right to seek compensation for losses. Damages sought in a personal injury claim may be to cover medical expenses, pay for future pain and suffering or compensate families for loss of wages or companionship.
